Save on Gwinnett County Property Taxes

Did you buy a new home last year?  Act now to keep your Gwinnett County, Georgia home mortgage payments affordable.

New homeowners can limit the future property taxes they may owe on their primary residence in Gwinnett County.  As you may know, your total monthly mortgage payment includes the principal, interest, taxes, and insurance, and changes in property taxes can suddenly make those payments unaffordable.  But new residential owner-occupants can limit increases in the county’s portion of their property tax bill when the value increases by applying for one or more of the homestead exemptions available to them.

Examples of Homestead Exemptions

  • The regular exemption
  • Several senior and surviving spouse exemptions
  • A disability exemption
  • And exemptions for public service employees.

Here’s a link to more information on the Gwinnett County Tax Assessor’s Website.

If managing fluctuations in your mortgage payment is of interest to you, please consider acting now so that the approved exemptions may be reflected in your May or June tax assessment notices.  Some of these exemptions require documentation from external sources, and the April 1 deadline is approaching fast.  New Gwinnett County Property Owners who bought this year can apply at any time and benefit from approved homestead exemptions in the future.
